Department of English - Strengths and Achievements

STRENGTHS: 

It is a well- known fact that English plays an important role in binding thewhole of thenation to a thread. It is thelanguage that opens thegate way ofemployability and opportunity andvision for theyouth. The department ofEnglishofS.K.S.D.MahilaKalasala,Tanuku,owesitsorigintotheveryestablishment of the collegein 1982 which is affiliated to Andhra University and now affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University. According to the University norms both the first and second year classes of English have been taught as acompulsory subject.  Since inception, the department has established itself in abig way catering to the needs of society and imparting quality education to thestudents.In conformity with the vision andmission of the college and thepresent society’s need, the department of English has moulded itself with positiveaspirationstocope-upwiththelatesttrend,prevalentinthenationalandinternational level and need based teaching of English. Since the situation foremployability demands a good command over the communicative skill of thestudent, the department has given priority to imparting such skills in students. Since most of the studentshave rural backdrop, the department of English has prepared an active plan toenhance the language skills for them. First of all, the slow learners are identified throughvarious methods like asking them some simple questions, a dictation test andexamining their family history like parent’s education etc. After identifying theslow learners a programme of Bridge Course, Remedial Coaching are conducted to develop their grammatical and spoken skills. 

ThedepartmentisequippedwiththeEnglishlanguagelabwiththesoftware provided by the Globe Reena technologies. The software has differentmodulesonthebasicslikegrammar,pronunciation,groupdiscussionanddifferent compositionwork which will enhance the students to enrich their spoken skills in order to get good jobs.
